Program on

Moritz Küng is currently researching a specific typology of books: blank and illegible, based on unprinted contents, with texts that have mutated into something else, or books that have become tautological objects in their own right – in short: books that are read and looked at, but in a different way. In his talk, he approaches the Art Library with this specific focus and discusses his work with books from his point of view as a curator, editor, and collector and how this resonates with the Sitterwerk Art Library.

Moritz Küng, is an independent exhibition curator, critic, and book editor working at the intersection between art, architecture, and publishing. Born in Lucerne, he now lives and works in Barcelona. Trained as a construction designer at Robert & Trix Haussmann architects in Zurich, he studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the VUB University in Brussels. He has worked at the Architekturforum in Zurich, CNAC Le Magasin in Grenoble, Fondation pour l'Architecture in Brussels; deSingel arts campus in Antwerp; the El Canodrom center for contemporary art, and the art book fair ArtsLibris in Barcelona, and has curated exhibitions – among others – for the 25th Art Biennial in Sao Paulo (2002), the 11th Architecture Biennial in Venice (2008), the 26th Biennial of Graphic Design in Brno (2014) and the 25th Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk (2016). In 2003, he initiated the year-long project and monthly lecture series Curating the Library in Antwerp, which ran until 2009.

Werkplaats Typografie (WT) invited Moritz Küng on the occasion of its three-week residency at the Sitterwerk. The participants will present the results of their work in an exhibition alongside his lecture. Werkplaats Typografie is a two-year graphic design masters program based in Arnhem, the Netherlands. It is part of ArtEZ University of the Arts. WT commissioned Moritz Küng this year to organize a Master Class series that will take place in Barcelona (June), Leipzig (October), and Brussels (December).
