Book Design for the Sitterwerk – Presentation of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts

March 04, 2014 to April 06, 2014

In September and October 2013, fifteen students of graphic design under the direction of the designers Megi Zumstein and Valentin Hindermann at the School of Art and Design at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts had the task of designing a book about the Sitterwerk. The students spent one day on site and received an in-depth introduction to the areas of the Sitterwerk Foundation and the Kunstgiesserei as well as image and text material on the institutions concerned.

They then had a total of six weeks to design a type of monograph about the Sitterwerk and the Kunstgiesserei using this material and their own photographs and sketches. The specifications with regard to content and design included a general introduction to the various areas and a detailed presentation of a focus of their own choosing. At the end of October 2013, the results in the form of book dummies were presented and discussed on the occasion of the final presentation at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. With Marina Schütz and Ariane Roth  two employees of the Sitterwerk were involved in the seminar and present at the presentation. The students’ works were convincing as a whole and at the same time so diverse and interesting in terms of design that all fifteen designs will be presented in a public exhibition in the Sitterwerk from March 4 to April 6, 2014.

As the publishing house for their book dummies, all of the students selected the Vexer Verlag in St. Gallen of the artist and publisher Josef Felix Müller. He was present at the opening on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at 5 pm and discussed the works with the students and their professors as well as provided information about his work as a publisher.

Presentation until April 6, 2014
