The Most Beautiful Swiss Books of 2011

November 18, 2012 to December 16, 2012

The Bundesamt für Kultur (BAK) is holding “The Most Beautiful Swiss Books” competition each year. With this award, the BAK, on the one hand, acknowledges outstanding achievements in the field of book design and production. On the other, the competition draws attention to particularly noteworthy books currently being published.

The competition attracts a great deal of interest, and in 2011, 392 books by Swiss book designers, publishing houses, or printing houses were submitted to the jury. In January 2012, the five-person jury then selected and awarded prizes to a total of 27 specimens as the «most beautiful Swiss books of 2011».

In the exhibition, which has already been presented in Zurich, Lavin and Lausanne, both the award-winning books as well as all the publications submitted to the competition are shown.

Linotype. The Film is a feature-length documentary centered around the Linotype type casting machine. Called the "Eighth Wonder of the World" by Thomas Edison, it revolutionized printing and society. The film tells the charming and emotional story of the people connected to the Linotype, for example Carl Schlesinger, former Linotype-Operator at the New York Times.
