“Feuer & Flamme” Available on DVD

In the last ten years, the filmmaker Iwan Schumacher filmed the creation of various art works in the Kunstgiesserei. This resulted in the creation of the documentary film “Feuer & Flamme” (Fire & Flame), which is now celebrating its premiere in various cinemas in Switzerland. The film focuses on the staff of the Kunstgiesserei and its work on works by Mariana Castillo Deball, Katharina Fritsch, Urs Fischer, Alex Hanimann, Paul McCarthy, and Hans Josephsohn.

Iwan Schumacher about the film:
More than ten years ago, Peter Fischli and David Weiss brought the Kunstgiesserei St.Gallen to my attention as a possible starting point for a film. What seemed like a diversionary tactic at that moment, after the duo had rebuffed my request to make a film about them, with hindsight, turned out to be a rare stroke of luck: this enterprise with its highly specialized and motivated artisans and craftspeople who realize the ideas and visions of artists in sculpture with heart and soul fascinated me during my first visit. I realized that the Kunstgiesserei is not only home to a dedicated community of individuals but also represents a unique interface where art and craft, archaic techniques and the most up-to-date high-tech technologies come together.
