World Book Day 2017 in the Sitterwerk

April 23, 2017

Since 2004, the “World Book Day” initiated by UNESCO has also been celebrated in Switzerland. In 2017, the Verein Buchstadt St. Gallen in cooperation with the Cantonal Library St. Gallen Vadiana invited nineteen institutions to celebrate a festival of books together from Saturday, April 22, to Monday, April 24. During these days, libraries, bookshops, and publishing houses offered a broad palette of different events.

The Sitterwerk was also involved with a small exhibition on the topic “Der Stoff aus dem die Bücher sind” (The Material of which Books Are Made). It presents various materials from the Material Archive such as papyrus, rag, lead, aluminum, sepia, pigment, Irish moss . . . They form a loose presentation of (nearly) all the components of a book and its production. There is also an overview of the literature found in the Art Library about books and libraries.

Details and a look back at the entire program of “World Book Day” in St.Gallen and its surroundings can be found at
