Du—The Culture Magazine: May Issue on Hans Josephsohn

Du magazine, which was founded by the journalist Arnold Kübler in 1941, is considered to be the most important culture magazine in Switzerland. Since the beginning, thematic issues have been a focus, while taking a look at current happenings in art, literature, film, and photography.

Issue No. 856 in May 2015 is dedicated to the work and life of Hans Josephsohn. It brings together texts by Paul Nizon, Clare Lilley, and Stephan Kunz as well as conversations of the editor-in-chief, Oliver Prange, with Peter Märkli, Felix Lehner, and Ulrich Meinherz. Also included in the issue is an interview Hans-Ulrich Obrist conducted with Josephsohn in 2001, which is now published in German for the first time.

A large portion of the photographs in the issue were taken by the artist Katalin Deér, who has been observing Josephsohn’s works and his exhibitions with her camera for over ten years. Further photos are by photographers such as Jürg Hassler, Simone Kappeler, Heinrich Helfenstein, Willy Spiller, and Jiří Makovec who accompanied Josephsohn and his work for many years.
