Josephsohn at Hauser & Wirth in London

November 22, 2012 to January 19, 2013

Opening on November 21, 2012, 6 pm–8 pm

In remembrance of Hans Josephsohn, who passed away in August 2012 at the age of 92, Galerie Hauser & Wirth is presenting an exhibition with works by the Zurich sculptor in their rooms on Piccadilly in London.

On the ground floor, it will be possible to view five large works from the key genres in Josephsohn’s oeuvre: one large reclining figure, two large half-figures, for the first time an over-life-sized standing figure from the figurative phase in the 1960s, which it was first possible to realize as a casting two years ago, an early flat relief as well as a large, portrait-format relief on which a further “large reclining figure” is depicted.

On the upper floor, the presentation concentrates on the group of standing figures of around one meter in height as well as on the important group of small half-figures from the last 25 years. These three-dimensional sculptures are presented along with numerous drawings.

The exhibition at Hauser & Wirth was created in close collaboration with the Kesselhaus Josephsohn / Galerie Felix Lehner and forms the prelude to further exhibitions in Great Britain in the coming year: two different, extensive Josephsohn exhibitions will take place at Modern Art Oxford in February and at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in May.
