«Josephsohn Bildhauer»

February 08, 2008 to April 06, 2008

Udo Kittelmann showed Josephsohn as one of his final exhibitions in the MMK in Frankfurt/Main, before moving to Berlin to become the new Director of the Nationalgalerie. The main exhibition «Josephsohn Bildhauer» in the MMK showed various works from the extensive oeuvre of Hans Josephsohn. Archaic seeming steles and heads from the early 1950s and a large group of standing and reclining figures and sculptural reliefs from the figurative phase of the 1970s illustrate the consistent development in Josephsohn's work that led to the unique style of the large half-figures and reclining figures of the 90s. It is on these striking works by Josephsohn that the focus of the exhibition, which came into being through close cooperation between the MMK and the Kesselhaus Josephsohn, lay.
