Open Studios – Lorenza Longhi and Ani Schulze

June 27, 2019 Event date: 17.00 to 21.00

Lorenza Longhi and Ani Schulze have been guests in the Sitterwerk studios since the beginning of May. On June 27, the two artists open their studios for friends and interested individuals and provide insight into their works in progress.

The dissolution of seriality by means of manual production, of design status symbols by means of faulty handwork, not only in her copies of furniture from USM—in her work, Lorenzo Longhi mercilessly interrogates established concepts of corporate identity and supposed individualism. In the Sitterwerk, the artist has utilized the space and time to pursue these topics further, and presents her current projects at the open studio. Lorenza Longhi studied visual art at the Accademia di Brera in Milan and completed her master’s degree at the Ecole d'Art Lausanne (ECAL). She recently exhibited in Basel in connection with the Kiefer-Hablitzel-Göhner Art Prize and is part of the ongoing group exhibition The Replacements at the Museum Bellpark in Kriens.

During her stay in the Sitterwerk, Ani Schulze has worked on the sculptural extension of her video work "Flint House Lizard", which deals with the physical and conceptual influences of solar cycles and other elemental natural forces on current social models for life. Equally at home in analogue and digital media as well as in drawing, collage, video, and sculpture, in the Sitterwerk, she assembled a room installation, which she combines with a lecture performance during the open studio. Schulze studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main and at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. One of her room installations, 7 Follies, can currently be seen at the Artothek in Cologne.

Starting at 5 p.m.: Open studios and barbecue near the Studio House

6:30 p.m.: Lecture performance by Ani Schulze

Tip: Access to the Sitterwerk is restricted during the Openair St.Gallen, June 27–30. Cars should be parked at the Bruggen district and visitors should walk down on foot (10 min.).
