Minze Tummescheit and Arne Hector, two filmmakers who live in Berlin, were guest artists in the Sitterwerk in the months of June and July 2011. They were working on the editing of their second large-scale work, a documentary film with the title in arbeit. In 2004, Jarmark Europa, also a documentary film, premiered at the Berlinale.
The project in arbeit sees itself as research on the conditions, potential, and limitations of collective action. The communicative process of the research thus becomes the content of the film. A series of interviews interconnects collective projects from throughout Europe in which collaboration is the central theme.
In the foreground is the question: when we increasingly find ourselves in post-modern society as monadic actors, how is it possible to join forces and act together politically?
L'Abominable
Minze Tummescheit and Arne Hector conducted the first conversation in the series of interviews with members of L'Abominable, a collective film lab, an open workshop where film material can be developed, reworked, edited, and printed. For this, the lab collective restored machines that had been decommissioned as a result of the digitalization of the film industry. The lab makes it possible for filmmakers to take the work with the material back into their own hands again and thus gain a certain degree of autonomy in the production process. The conversation addresses the developing of an open structure, questions of self-organization, and work beyond exploitation.
