Mariana Castillo DeballA Work for the dOCUMENTA (13) is Created in the Sitterwerk

Mariana Castillo Deball (*1975 in Mexico, lives in Berlin) has already come to work at the Sitterwerk several times for a period of days or weeks. For her exhibition in the Kunsthalle St.Gallen in 2009, she did research in the Material Archive. From this, she developed an intervention that it was possible to see in both the Kunsthalle as well as the Sitterwerk.
The artist has been invited to participate in the dOCUMENTA (13)—June 9 to September 16, 2012. The work for this was created in March and April 2012 during her stay as guest artist in the Sitterwerk. It is a geometric, curved object based on a formula of Felix Klein (mathematician, 1849–1925), produced in stucco marble and measuring ca. 2.50 meters in height and 7 meters in length.

Patron Edition
The production of this work and the support and provision of infrastructure, manpower, and knowledge by the Sitterwerk involve costs that are much higher than the financing available is able to cover. The Sitterwerk is, therefore, looking for patrons who can help make the project possible. As thanks, every patron receives a smaller version of the work: the artist has produced twenty unique copies, of which fifteen are to be presented to individual patrons. Some patrons have already been found and correspondingly received some unique objects from the patron edition. Around half of the objects are currently still available and we are pleased to provide information about them in case of interest.
