Visiting Sitterwerk

Following the spread of the coronavirus and the recent instructions issued by the Federal Office of Public Health, the Kunstbibliothek and the Werkstoffarchiv remain closed until 19 April 2020. We want to make sure that we are not putting anybody at unnecessary risk of infection. There will also be no guided tours of the Sitterwerk, the Kunstgiesserei, and the Kesselhaus Josephsohn during this period.

Admission to the Art Library and Material Archive

CHF 10.– / reduced CHF 5.– / members of the circle of patrons gratis

Open during the week from 9am to 5pm and on Sunday from 2 to 6pm, closed on Saturdays.

The Kesselhaus Josephsohn has the same opening hours.

Public Tours

The public guided tours offer individuals an insight into the areas of the Sitterwerk Foundation, the Kesselhaus Josephsohn and the Kunstgiesserei.
The tour lasts about 1.5 hours, registration is required:

Private Tours

The Sitterwerk Foundation offers tours of the Kunstgiesserei, the Kesselhaus Josephsohn, the Art Library, and the Material Archive for groups of up to 25 individuals. As an introduction, the history and function of the individual institutions are described and the production of cast sculptures is explained. The individual work steps in the production process can be comprehended during the tour through the workshops of the Kunstgiesserei and the collections of the Sitterwerk.

Private tours are offered from Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm. A tour lasts around 1.5 hours and costs CHF 400.– per group plus CHF 5.– admission per person.
A reduced rate of CHF 250.– plus 5.– per person applies for school classes.
Members of the Sitterwerk circle of patrons pay CHF 300.– per group.

Early registration is recommended


Extensive research is possible in the guestroom of the Art Library and Material Archive.
An overnight stay for one or two individuals costs CHF 50.– per night.

Visits in combination with room rental and catering


The atmosphere in the Sitterwerk provides a suitable framework for symposia, seminars, or festive occasions. The room of the Art Library and Material Archive is suitable for evening events with catering and is rented out during the week outside opening hours. For conferences and seminars that take place during the day, a further room is available on the premises. Room rentals are usually offered in combination with a guided tour. The rates are listed below.


In combination with tours or room rentals, we organize individual menus, aperitifs of various sizes and customized catering. The number of places for dinners is limited to around 60 individuals. The person of reference is the main chef of the kitchen, Susanne Keller.
