Sitterwerk is a Shaper of the Future in
Libraries 2013
The project of dynamic order, which shapes the character of the Art Library and the Material Archive, was awarded the Zukunftsgestalter in Bibliotheken 2013 (Shaper of the Future in Libraries) prize at the Congress on Information and Libraries in Leipzig on March 12, 2013.
The competition was organized by the De Gruyter scholarly publishing house, and the five-person jury was made up of employees of the journal Bibliothek – Forschung und Praxis BFP and members of the Zukunftswerkstatt Kultur- und Wissensvermittlung e.V. The prize was awarded to two prizewinners of equal standing. In addition to the project of dynamic order in the Sitterwerk, the second prizewinner in 2013 is a project for digitizing Berlin address and telephone books, which was submitted by the Zentral und Landesbibliothek Berlin (ZLB).
From the jury report on the Sitterwerk: «The idea that it is not the librarian but rather the clients who determine and change the order of books, and in doing so leave behind their own traces of knowledge, that particularly enthralled the jury.»
In addition to the presentation at the Kongress für Information und Bibliothek in the summer of 2013, an extensive essay on the project will be published in the specialist journal Bibliothek – Forschung und Praxis BFP.
