From Jost's Archive
For several years now, the archive of works of the St. Gallen graphic designer Jost Hochuli has been placed at the Zentrum für das Buch, a special collection at the St. Gallen Cantonal Library Vadiana. Out of these archival boxes, friends have compiled materials in five showcases on five different themes - sketches, drafts, collages, woodblocks, prints and student works. They report on Hochuli's work as a graphic designer, typographer and teacher and show the joy of design, of working directly with scissors and paper, with brush and pencil, but also with systematic and conceptual design.
The exhibition at the Sitterwerk lasts only a short time. It is a lively insight into the archives and the work of a designer who has printed, shown, written, taught so much in St. Gallen, but has never exhibited his own work here. With two events, we offer the opportunity to learn more and directly from those involved about different aspects of Hochuli's work, to hear personal insights into this or that detail, and to see unexpected discoveries and the best-ofs from the archive in short lectures.
At the vernissage and finissage Angela Kuratli, Roland Früh and Corina Neuenschwander, Martin Leuthold, Jonas Niedermann and Roland Stieger will present the showcases.
Vernissage: Sunday, 27 October 2019, starting at 2pm, introduction at 3pm
