Simone Fattal, Hathor, 2025

Simone Fattal (born in Damascus in 1942, lives and works in Paris) combines painting, ceramics, sculpture, and collage in her work to create an artistic language that explores mythology, identity, and cultural memory. During a guest residency at the Atelierhaus, sculptures were created at the Kunstgiesserei St. Gallen for the exhibition “Voix des antiquités orientales” at the Louvre, where they have been presented in dialogue with the collections from April 2024 to February 2025.
Fattal's formal language often draws on archaic, fragmentary body silhouettes. The edition is also reminiscent of a primeval-looking body fragment in which legs and horns can be discerned, consolidating Fattal's interest in timeless, elemental figures. The title refers to Hathor, the ancient Egyptian goddess of love, music, joy, fertility, and motherhood.
Fattal's work is firmly established internationally: in 2022 she participated in the Venice Biennale, and in 2024 she exhibited central groups of works at the Vienna Secession. Major institutions have dedicated exhibitions to her, including MoMA PS1 New York, Whitechapel Gallery London, ICA Milano, Portikus Frankfurt, Bergen Kunsthall, and Yves Saint Laurent Museum Marrakesh.
