CaptionJochen Lempert
From September to October 2013, Jochen Lempert, who lives and works in Hamburg, is a guest artist in the Sitterwerk. He studied biology, and has been working as a photographer since the early 1990s.
With numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at the Fotomuseum Winterthur (Forschen und Erfinden, 2007), the Museum Ludwig (Cologne, 2010), the Rochester Art Center (Minneapolis, 2012), the Palais de Tokyo (Intense Proximité, 2012), the Hamburger Kunsthalle (2013), he has made a name for himself internationally. In his black and white analogue photos and photograms, he deals in particular with nature and the animal world. With his camera, he carries out a type of field research and provides unusual insights into our world and its microcosm. The theme is always also the relationship between humans and nature, including in urban spaces.
He presents his images in space-bound work groups that follow associative links or formal analogies.
With his both scientific as well as playful-poetic method of working, he achieves surprising insights—often connected with a subtle humor, which is also expressed in the titles of the works and commentaries.
