Cécile Hummel was our guest at the Atelierhaus and has, over two months, opened up a whole little universe here. Shortly before her stay, her new book "Nicht ein Ozeandampfer sondern ein Floss" was published with many drawings and photographs, and Cécile also used her time at the Sitterwerk to draw. Her original intention was to immerse herself in a private collection of objects from many centuries and from different continents. However, everyday life, the cold and the beauty of the unexpected led Cécile to create a series of new drawings in addition to her research. Using the technique of frottage, she captured the winter caps of employees in the Sittertal. As physical work with a drawing pencil, the movements resemble the modeling and exploration of the surfaces of a landscape. The objects - from the collection as well as everyday items - are transferred into two-dimensional space within the drawings. Caps with knitted patterns as well as painted vases decorated with inscriptions are vessels which, in their forms, carry equal value, each preserving their origin stories and their meanings. Via these objects and their representation on paper we gain access to stored knowledge, memory and places.
