Pablo Insurralde
Open studio on Thursday, 24 and Monday, 28 of October, 17:00 to 20:00
Only a few people at a time are admitted to this open studio, into the magical, poetic world that Pablo Insurralde has created. The close and direct encounter with the work that surrounds you should take place without distraction.
– I quickly feel huge in the midst of all the small details, like an elephant in a china store, and begin to move quietly and carefully. And very attentively, as I don’t know exactly where a muffled sound and the surprising tinkling of bells are coming from. There are tiny fists and feet, shiny remnants of castings, abandoned works of art, curved branches with dry leaves, little motors that generate movement and lots of pots of different sizes, made of clay from the area. –
Pablo has taught pottery to many of us here in the Sitter Valley. A new craft! Here of all places, where different crafts determine the work of every single day. Pablo showed us how the material has to be dug up, watered, sieved and dried again before being worked on. On the potter's wheel, the clay is turned into vessels in different earthy, sandy colors.
The large room is filled in its entirety with thousands of small details. – I am reminded of the quote: “The bigger one is the smaller one and the smaller one is the bigger one!”* In the subtle light, shadows dance across the walls, including mine, standing in the middle. –
Pablo Insurralde lives and works in Buenos Aires. From August to October 2024 he has been an Artist in Residence at the Sitterwerk Foundation. His stay was organised in collaboration with ProHelvetia.
