Silicate + Sodium + Calcium
An exhibition about the process of glass creation—materials, craft and inspiration
Exhibition opening on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 6 pm
The exhibition Silicate + Sodium + Calcium offers insights into the personal archive of Venetian glass artist Marie Brandolini and her company, Laguna~B. The exhibition views both Marie Brandolini’s archive and the collections of the Sitterwerk as tools—not only to retrace the thought processes of an individual, but to reflect on someone or something. It is about shared knowledge and ways of generating knowledge that go beyond conventional archival practices and research methods.
In addition to documents, the exhibition presents examples of glassmaking techniques that have been practiced in Murano for generations and were experimentally adapted and reinterpreted by Marie Brandolini. The samples specially produced for the exhibition will later be incorporated into the Sitterwerk’s material archive.
Another insight into contemporary glass creation and production is created through recorded conversations with a designer, a researcher, and a maestro. These conversations, moderated by Laura Panchaud, will be published alongside the exhibition in the Sitterwerk Online Journal.
