Vanessa Billy is an artist in residence at the Sitterwerk guest studio from June to July 2025.
Vanessa Billy (*1978 in Geneva, Switzerland, lives in Zurich) deals with ecological, material, and social issues in her artistic practice. In the Art Library, she will show a series of experiments with animal blood—a material and waste product she has been researching for several years in order to develop bio-based plastic for sculptural works. In doing so, she draws on historical techniques such as bois durci, a mixture of blood and sawdust that was used as an early plastic in the 19th century. Billy's material experiments with animal blood are part of her ongoing exploration of energy, cycles, and our relationship to natural and artificial resources.

On Monday, August 11, 2025, the open studio of the artists in residence Vanessa Billy and Virginia Overton will take place. Starting at 5 pm, the two artists will provide insight into their current projects. Afterwards, there will be a bar, something to eat, and a surprise that will linger in your memory.
