«A Library is a Growing Organism»
Interventions and Talks at the Art Library during the Sitterwerk jubilee year 2026
Twenty years ago, with the establishment of the Sitterwerk Foundation, the vision of a library began to take shape – and with it the transition from a private to a publicly accessible collection. Since then, the collection has grown steadily through targeted acquisitions and donations. Since then, the collection has grown steadily through targeted acquisitions and donations. However, the private nature of the book collection and the influence of the book collector Daniel Rohner have been preserved to this day – not least thanks to the art library’s unique classification system. As a result, the collection is enriched not only by new books, but also by the traces, stories and knowledge of its users.
The Art Library is using this special year as an opportunity to highlight the people who shape this place through their research and their work here. At the same time, the collection is being expanded through publications by guest artists, and the contributions of past collaborators are being brought to light. Throughout the year, the collection will grow, and various artistic approaches and publishing practices will be showcased through interventions and presentations.
